Dental Crowns

Restorative dentist Dr. Anderkvist repairs minor cavities with tooth-colored resin or white fillings. Resin can also be used to repair small tooth imperfections like chips, cracks and stains. Inlays/onlays are used to fix larger cavities, while full-coverage crowns restore the entire tooth structure. At Westwood Dental Smiles, we use only high-quality materials to create restorations that fit perfectly and look natural.

If the cavities are deeper then we have to use composites (white fillings), which today are just as strong as their silver ancestors. For extensive cavities a partial crown called an inlay or onlay are needed. A regular filling will not be enough to protect and support the cusps of the tooth from further fractures. Since this type of restorations involve impressions, a laboratory technician and a second cementation appointment they are more expensive then a filling but less expensive then the crown. For “stressed out” or cracked teeth a more expensive treatment form such as root canals, crowns, bridges or implants are needed. There is a vast diversity in types of treatments available and several different treatment plans can apply to the same situation depending on cost and longevity of repair. For anesthesia we are using “The Wand” or dental wand, a computerized slow and almost painless delivery system. By utilizing all of the above diagnostic methods we are achieving a very high success rate in detecting and treating any ongoing caries disease. Restoring cavities with tooth colored fillings, sealants and inlays save the teeth from needing more expensive crowns, root canals, bridges, extractions and implants. Our office can supply you with high fluoride toothpastes and gels, and fluoride stents. We will recommend these items for your home care if your cavity risk factor is high.
