What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a teeth-straightening system developed by Align Technology. The system features a series of clear, removable aligners made of high-grade plastic. Each aligner corresponds to a stage of the orthodontic treatment process. Each time you wear a new aligner, your teeth are straighter. The number of aligners and time required depends on the degree of misalignment.
More comfortable then braces: The aligners are made of clear high-grade, soft resin material that is custom designed to fit your mouth perfectly. There are no wires to scratch your gums, lips and inner cheeks. A bit of discomfort is normal as you adjust to the new aligners, but this is temporary. Invisalign invisible braces moves your teeth little by little using controlled force. Only certain teeth are moved at a time. Each aligner is used for about two weeks at a time, until you achieve the perfect smile. Your dentist will create an individualized treatment plan using 3-D computer technology. Average treatment time is about one year.

The most obvious advantage of the treatment is cosmetic dentistry: the aligners are completely transparent, therefore far more difficult to detect than traditional wire and bracket braces. This makes the method particularly popular among adults who want to straighten their teeth without the look of traditional metal braces, which are commonly worn by children and adolescents. In addition, the aligners are marketed as being more comfortable than braces. Due to the removable nature of the device, food can be consumed without the encumbrance of metallic braces.
Easy teeth cleaning. Brushing and flossing with braces can be a pain. With Invisalign, you can simply remove the aligner and clean your teeth. Less risk for cavities!
No diet restrictions.Invisalign aligners are removable, so you can eat whatever you want. Just make sure to brush and floss after each meal.
Clinically, aligners avoid many of the side effects of traditional fixed appliances, for example the effects on the gums and supporting tissues. Almost all other types of orthodontic treatment will cause the roots of teeth to shorten (root resorption) for most patients, and demineralisation or tooth decay occurs in up to 50% of patients, because (unlike Invisalign) they cannot be removed for eating and cleaning , and because they prevent accurate x-rays from being taken. Patients “graduate” to a new set of aligners in their treatment series approximately every two weeks. The aligners give less force per week and less pain than do fixed appliances (traditional metal braces). Fixed appliances are adjusted approximately every six weeks and apply greater forces.
Is Invisalign Right for You?
Almost anyone who is a candidate for traditional braces is also a candidate for Invisalign. Invisalign can correct mild to moderate misalignment, including under bite, overbite, cross bite and crowded and gapped teeth. When you come in for your smile consultation, Dr. Anderkvist will examine your mouth and jaw thoroughly to determine which straightening method is right for you.

We’re offering Invisalign treatment to all of our patients. Invisalign is a set of aligners made out of safe, medical grade polymer, much like bleaching trays but just a little thicker. They help to move the teeth little by little, so you’re changing them every two weeks or so. It’s a very speedy treatment, it’s safe for the gums, it’s actually better than braces for gum health because it’s removable. That’s the beauty of it, not only that it’s invisible.
The normal treatment with Invisalign can take six months to a year, and afterwards you have to wear your retainers because many people forget to do that. Teeth have memory and they tend to go back to their original shape.
Invisalign is a great alternative for people who don’t want traditional braces but want the aesthetics of it.
