Digital Dental X-rays

X-rays are a crucial part of a dental evaluation, but some patients are concerned about unnecessary radiation to dental xray exposure. Using digital X-ray technology, you can now receive necessary care without extra radiation. Digital X-rays are revolutionizing the way dentists diagnose and treat patients. What are Digital X-rays?
Digital X-rays are similar to digital cameras. Instead of using film to capture and store images, digital X-ray machines capture images and record them electronically. You can immediately view the results on a monitor, and Dr. Anderkvist can discuss them with you.
The main advantage of using digital over traditional X-rays is the reduced amount of radiation –up to 90 percent less than traditional X-rays! This means that 18 digital X-ray films have the radiation of only a few traditional X-ray films.

- Immediate viewing
- Stored and transmitted electronically
- Can be color-corrected, enhanced, and zoomed in and out like a digital image

Dr. Anderkvist understands your concerns about digital X-ray radiation, no matter how small the risk. He orders X-rays responsibly and only to diagnose and treat dental problems. It is recommended that new patients at Westwood Dental Smiles have completeDigital Dental X-rays taken, to be repeated every 3-5 years or depending on the patient’s history.
In addition, four bitewing films are recommended once a year to check for cavities between the teeth.
In room X-rays
All of our rooms are equipped with digital x-rays. Digital x-rays today are achieved by small sensors that we put in the patient’s mouth and it feeds the image to the computer so we have an immediate result.
The benefits are not only that they are faster but they’re also safer. It’s up to 90% less radiation. The image can be enhanced so we have a better diagnosis.
