Meet Dr. Anderkvist

Dr. Tomas Anderkvist is Assistant Clinical Professor at University of Southern California, School of Dentistry where he is the former Course Director of Occlusion ISP.

Dr. Anderkvist received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree in 1991 from U.S.C. School of Dentistry, and a second D.D.S. degree from Caroline Institute, Stockholm, Sweden.

He graduated at the TOP of his dental school class in 1991. Because of his accomplishments in school, he was accepted to a very sought-after specialist program in prosthodontics.

He received his Advanced Specialty degree in prosthodontics from U.S.C. School of Dentistry in 1994. He has maintained a private practice in Westwood, Los Angeles since 1995 where he practices Aesthetic and Family dentistry.

He is a renowned lecturer, author of articles published in peer review journals and recipient of numerous awards and honors. He presented his published implant research at IADR (International Association for Dental Research) in Chicago.

Hello, I’m Tomas Anderkvist. I’m a prosthodontist. A prosthodontist is a dental specialist who has received three or more years of doctoral post training. The training is on complete mouth rehabilitations, crowns and bridges, implants , dentures, TMJ treatment and cosmetic dentistry. It’s an intense and vigorous training, beyond the norms of a normal dentist degree.

Continuing Education

Yes, we always keep up with continuing education courses to further our knowledge, because we always have to be on the top edge of dentistry, so to say. There are new things coming all the time… for example CBCT scanners which show us teeth and their problems in 3 dimensions, compared to previously only two dimensional views of traditional dental x-rays.

We have implants, that we do a lot of, we restore missing teeth thereby restoring the function and the smile of the patient, and it is a very rewarding experience.

Meet Dr. Tabachnik

Dr. Nadia Tabachnik received her DDS degree at the prestigious Odessa State Medical University in Odessa, Ukraine. After graduation she enjoyed practicing as a general dentist for five years in Westwood, Los Angeles. Dr. Tabachnik is currently serving as Clinical Assistant Professor Division of Endodontics, Orthodontics & General Practice Residency at U.S.C. School of Dentistry in Los Angeles.

Dr. Nadia Tabachnik is well versed in Endodontic treatments, retreatments, microsurgical endodontics and dental trauma cases. Dr. Tabachnik is also certified in IV and conscious sedation to offer maximum comfort for dental phobic patients.

The list of my continuing education classes and courses is endless. Usually to maintain our dental license, we need 50 Continuing Education units every two years, and recently I counted my number of the courses and to my surprise I had 200 Continuing Education units, well over the required amount. I would say that I am very proud that I can deliver painless dentistry by taking courses on IV and conscious sedation. Therefore I am able to provide all types of services to the “fearful patient.” When a patient is sedated they do not remember the procedure , they do not experience discomfort so they’re very happy.I have taken implant placement courses, bone grafting courses … All of these courses provide me with a lot of knowledge so that I can provide better services to all of our patients.

Being an Endodontist

I have had the desire to become an endodontist for quite a while. I believe in inter-specialty networking, and I have a high interest in those relationships. I was sure that networking with other specialists was going to bring the most benefit and best dental service to the patient. Because my philosophy in dentistry is to treat patients and to see patients not as a patient but as a whole person. My goal is to satisfy all their needs, to develop trust in us, and to make them at ease. And of course, to deliver the best dental service. That is why I decided to commit myself to two more years of education and become an endodontist.

I enjoy what I am doing, it makes me feel good to be able to help patients that are having discomfort. They’re in pain , they can be a little grumpy -not all of them but some of them I am very happy when the procedure is completed , they smile , they hug me and they’re really thankful for what was done. and sometimes I even get a hug. What a great day for me!!

I was blessed to be a part of the family of Westwood Dental Smiles. I have been working with Dr. Anderkvist for 8 years. I really enjoy our family, our staff and our amazing relationships with patients. Dr. Anderkvist is an easy person to work with and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of his office..

Choosing the right profession

I know that I chose the right profession. I was like every person probably in life asking the same question. Am I happy with what I am doing day to day, do I like it, do I want to do it for five to ten more years. When I asked myself that question, I immediately knew my answer. I really love what I am doing. I go to work with a smile, and it is a pleasure to know that I am going to meet new people and be able to help with their dental needs.

I like the fact that whenever the procedure is done, people are happy, they are smiling, and that they do not have any discomfort anymore. I love when I treat children and they give me a hug afterwards. It is very rewarding for me as a health care provider, that I can make those kids to love dentistry.

Dr Education

I’m from Ukraine, and my goal to become a dentist was set up a long time ago, actually when I was a child. My mom was a paramedic for 35 years and my sister is a well-respected dentist, so they both influenced me a lot on my decision to become a dentist.

I followed their footsteps and I have no regrets being in the medical profession. After graduating from high school, I was accepted to one of the most prestigious universities in Ukraine, and after graduation I enjoyed internship and working as a dentist.
