Holiday Habits For Good Oral Health

Holiday Habits For Good Oral Health

Hello again!

Welcome back to the Westwood Dental Smiles blog. We hope that our virtual space has the sort of relevant dentistry information that helps keep your family’s oral health on track.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we thought it would be good to reflect on what a gift good health really is. It should never be taken for granted, and it does take some effort on your part to stay on the good road.

In today’s blogpost, we wanted to review the things that we all should be doing to maintain our wellness.

Begin By Brushing

The ADA has stated that at a minimum we should brush our teeth twice a day for two minutes at a stretch.

This is our frontline defense against disease and decay and should be started as early in life as possible. Most kids actually enjoy the novelty of it and there are plenty of cool brushes and pastes aimed at them.

Did you know that our mouths have dangerous bacteria floating around before we are even old enough to have teeth?

Floss For Fun

OK, maybe it isn’t fun. But flossing is really good for you. Honestly, it is another non-negotiable if you want to optimize your health.

After you’ve spent two minutes brushing away tartar and plaque, take another moment to go after the area between your teeth that your brush will never reach.

If you teach (and model) proper flossing techniques early on, your kids will take for granted that it is just part of the plan.

This practice will go a long way towards keeping you healthy and will help you avoid painful and costly conditions down the road.

Rinse With Fluoride

Rinsing is also a good habit to fall into.

Depending on your age, a good mouth rinse can increase the cleanliness of your mouth. The antimicrobial rinses are great for reducing bacteria, while fluoride rinses help reduce the occurrence of tooth decay and cavities.

Did you know that fluoride is also contained in our L.A. tap water?

Go See Your Los Angeles Dentist

Finding a dentist that you can trust is an important component of maintaining good oral health.

We are here to help keep you on track, but we can only make a difference if you plan to come in on a regular basis.

Ideally, you should schedule your appointments every 3-6 months.

This is because our cleanings can eradicate any plaque and tartar that lingers, and our exams can provide a clear picture of any emerging issues that need to be addressed.

It is always better to treat gingivitis than full-blown periodontal disease, and a dental filling is a much more pleasant treatment than a root canal!

Makes sense, right?

Make Your Appointment Today!

We are ready to meet you wherever you are at. If it has been awhile since your last visit to the dentist, don’t feel guilty, just know that today is the perfect day to get started on turning things around.

At Westwood Dental Smiles, we perform advanced dental procedures as well as routine treatments, preventive care, restorations, orthodontics, cosmetic improvements, smile makeovers, full mouth rehabilitation, and sedation dentistry for those with anxiety.

Overall, our favorite aspect of dentistry is interacting with families and finding the best ways to collaborate with them on maintaining lifelong oral health.

Anything we can do to alleviate pain, apprehension, and fear along the way makes it all worthwhile.

Contact our L.A. dentist’s office to schedule your appointment.
