Laser-Based Cavity Detection
Back in the day, our tools were primitive. But we dentists did the best we could. The bad thing for patients was that visual examinations and X-rays dont always catch cavities. This meant more problems down the road when these small cavities ended up requiring large fillings, root canals, and, in some cases, extractions if they arent addressed early enough.
Thats why we have invested in the most advanced systems. We now utilize the DIAGNOdent laser cavity detection system to identify decay faster, so that your teeth can be repaired without significant damage.
VELscope Cancer Detection
The Westwood Dental Smiles team is proud to feature one of the most advanced oral cancer screening systems ever designed: VELscope. VELscope is equipped with a special light that illuminates any dangerous growths and tissues that probably would have been missed by the ordinary scanners we had at our disposal in earlier eras of dentistry. You wont have to waste any time waiting around for results, either.
Digital X-Rays
You can bet that we take our X-rays seriously. Old school film is no longer the best way to capture images of your teeth and gums, which is why we now use a modern digital X-ray machine.
This machine has a special sensor that gets placed in your mouth and sends the image to our computer, where it can be stored and viewed easily.
The real benefit to you is that digital X-rays produce 90% less radiation, so you wont be radioactive when you leave our chair!
The Wand
The Wand is a computerized, local dental anesthetic injection system that minimizes discomfort.
Before the Wand delivers the local anesthetic, a computer applies a small amount to numb the insertion site. Once the tiny needle is in place, the computer slowly delivers the right amount of anesthetic to numb the area completely.
The computer adjusts the pressure of the needle depending on the tissue density. The Wand knows how much anesthetic you need and how to deliver it painlessly.
Autoclave Sterilization
Autoclave sterilization is a central part of our infection control system. An autoclave is a device that uses steam pressure and high temperature (up to 270 F) to kill microorganisms effectively. The autoclave heats solutions above boiling point for a certain period of time until the equipment is sterilized.
Autoclaves are designed for safety, with auto-lock mechanisms while in use and unlock when sterilization is complete. Depending on the type of dental tool (such as the dental wand, dental laser, CBCT Scanner and others), it can take from six to 30 minutes for one autoclave cycle.
