Don’t Make It Worse For Yourself

Dental anxiety is serious business that can land you in a world of hurt, if you let it get carried away. Here’s the thing: if you have been avoiding the dentist’s chair for whatever reason, you are putting your oral health in jeopardy. Cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer can sneak up on you when you least expect it.

Even worse, the health of your teeth and gums directly impacts the health of the rest of your body. Gum disease destroys your smile first but it has also been linked with diabetes, respiratory issues, circulatory problems, and so forth.

But we can help you change your fate for the better. It is always in your best interest to have a dentist in your life that you can trust to stay in-tune with your ever-evolving needs. So, don’t let fear of lectures (they won’t happen), pain (we’ll keep it at bay) or any other dental phobias keep you away.

Like we said, you’ll like it here. And we offer sedation dentistry options that will make your experience of Westwood Dental Smiles a pleasant and enjoyable one.

Sedation Options

When you visit our cozy LA dental office, you will have multiple options for different levels of sedation. It all depends on what makes the most sense in your case.

Nitrous oxide, aka “laughing gas”, is a low-level variety of dental sedation that is designed to relax your nerves and calm your mind. We will control the level of nitrous that you will receive, so that you will remain relatively alert and pretty much aware of your procedure, but you won’t become tense or fearful.

Oral Sedation provides a deeper level of sedation. For this, a prescription sedative pill will be taken by you an hour or so before your procedure. The pill will put you into a state of deep relaxation. With oral sedation you will remain somewhat conscious but may only be vaguely aware of your surroundings. With any luck, you will have little memory of the procedure. You will definitely need a ride home.

IV Sedation is usually reserved for severe cases of dental anxiety, or for when you must receive several procedures. Not every office offers this but we have the special training and certification for to provide this type of sedation. Delivered through an IV, the sedatives will put you completely under. You will not be conscious during the procedure, and better yet, you will have no memory of it.
